Business as Unusual

We hope that everyone is well and that you are adjusting to these surreal times.

So much has changed over the course of a week. Like many countries around the world, the UK’s effort to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 has intensified with greater physical distancing, emphasis on avoiding unnecessary travel and the introduction of legislation (Coronavirus Regulations).

The impact of these global efforts has been felt worldwide across all sectors. For climbing, we have seen climbing walls close, people unable to travel to the mountains and crags, and many of our favourite shops forced to close their doors. This certainly feels like a ‘stay home now, climb later’ moment.

In contrast, we are being asked to maintain the supply of vital working at height equipment that is used by the emergency services and by teams globally for the maintenance and repair of essential utilities and infrastructure, such as the production and distribution of energy and telecommunications.

With all this mind, we have temporarily reduced our normally 200 strong Llanberis factory team to around 100 so we can remain operational and provide these essentials. The option of taking a forging press weighing 22 tonnes, or a CNC machine, and working from home was not a viable one.

We continue to look after our factory workforce here in Llanberis, whilst maintaining effective supply of specialist PPE equipment that will enable workers to carry out vital tasks around the world.

Our main office is now manned remotely by the team that can work from home. We are still here if you’d like to contact us—email is best and working hours are Mon—Fri (0900-1700)

Get in touch with your requirements. If we have it in stock, we’ll ship quickly. If we haven’t we’ll make it for you.

Look after each other and be kind.

It is business as unusual at DMM. Currently, it feels like we’re just about to start a complex, long term project. We’re sure that’s true for many of you. There is no pre-existing method statement for COVID-19, so let’s make sure we all adopt a dynamic and safety driven risk assessment for this rapidly evolving global situation.

We are working our way through it, listening to government advice, planning, and reacting day-by-day.

By producing locally in the UK, DMM are fortunate to have a great deal of control over our supply chain. The factory is still fully operational and we continue to ship worldwide from our warehouse.

Extra precautions to safeguard our workforce have been put in place. These include 'social distancing' at work stations, together with greater frequency and depth of cleaning. Where people can work from home, we are asking them to do so. Visits and tours of our factory in Llanberis have been suspended.

It’s going to be a tough spell globally for the professional working at height sector and the wider communities in which we live and work.

Now is a time when the core values and qualities that have shaped our working worlds take on an even greater importance in our day-to-day lives: perseverance, solidarity, partnership, respect, support, integrity and a healthy dose of humour.

Our duty of care is to look after each other.

From the team at DMM
