The Compact Swivel Range

19 December, 2016

DMM’s range of Compact Swivels allow torsion management in a compact form. These small, strong swivels reduce system height and help prevent twisted lines. The Mini Swivel features two fixed attachment points including a Prest-in configuration aid. The Focus and Nexus can be modified to suit specific applications. The range is suitable for any tree care, height safety, or rescue operation where torsion management and reduced system height are beneficial.

Avoid Twisting

Torsion, or twisting, can occur almost anywhere in rigging. Typical torsion hotspots are remote anchor points, hauling systems, and at attachment points on harnesses. Torsion increases friction and reduces movement efficiency. It can lead to tangled ropes, resulting in jammed equipment, stuck personnel and even damaged equipment.

Our Compact Swivels can be applied anywhere torsion occurs to alleviate its effects. Doing so increases freedom of movement for any object attached to the Swivel. In hauling systems, Compact Swivels allow loads being hauled to spin without twisting and damaging the ropes. Attached to a harness, they makes it easier for the user to perform operations that require twisting, especially in multi-anchor systems.

Small is Beautiful

Increasing system height can put extra stress on the body by forcing users to reach further to do their job, or manage their system. The dimensions of the Compact Swivels give easier access to the task in hand.

Used in activities like confined space rescue or snatch rescue, they allow easier management of the casualty with less physical strain on the rescuer. The small stature of the Swivels does not compromise performance – they have a robust 3kN working load limit and 26kN minimum breaking strain, and feature roller thrust bearings that handle rotating loads with smooth, efficient action.

Multi-purpose and secure

Our Compact Swivel range reflects the fact that torsion can occur anywhere. The Focus and Nexus models feature interchangeable Shackles to suit specific applications. These Shackles attach to the swivel via a pivoting axle, increasing freedom of movement and helping the device orientate correctly when loaded. Security comes from a dual stage locking mechanism that guards against accidental opening.

The Shackles are available in D and Bow shapes. The D shape creates a stable connection with a single carabiner, helping it align in its strongest orientation. The Bow shape can handle multi-directional loading, and accommodates multiple knots or connectors. This is ideal when bringing several lines together at a central point.

Removable Shackles allow the Focus and Nexus to attach to fixed points such as solid eye anchors, sewn terminations and wire core flip lines. This opens up the possibilities of torsion management anywhere in a system. Shackles can also be replaced as they wear, saving the cost of replacing the entire swivel.

The Shackles are available as standalone products. They rate to 26kN, and conform to EN362:2004/M, making them lightweight and multifunctional connectors.
