DMM Fall Protection
Home

Our philosophy is that of continuous improvement and to invest in and be partners with our employees, customers and suppliers to ensure that we provide well designed products and service of the highest quality and value for money. We believe that in doing this, we will continue to develop further as World leaders in the manufacture of quality fall protection equipment.

Quality Assured Product
At DMM we take great pride in our products. As regular users ourselves, we need to be sure that they perform to the highest standard throughout their working life. This is why we have been at the forefront of the development of Total Quality Management for fall protection equipment.

Fully Traceable
DMM products are manufactured from specially chosen fully traceable materials and pass through the most rigorous testing and inspection procedures at every stage of manufacture. They exceed all International Safety Standards eg.. CEN, UIAA, A.N.S.I., O.S.H.A., N.F.P.A. and C.S.A. We have been working with the BS5750 Quality System since 1986 and in 1991, DMM was registered to ISO 9002, in 1996 to ISO 9001 and currently accredited to ISO 9001 - 2000.

Prevention is better than cure: we use Statistical Quality Control (SQC) tools such as Statistical Process Control (SPC) & 3 Sigma to monitor trends in processes so that we can take the appropriate corrective and preventative action and to avoid errors occurring. Since all safety critical processes are carried out on site we are in the enviable position of having complete control over our processes. DMM are ISO9001 accredited, but we do go over and above the requirements of this important international standard in many areas in order to assure product integrity and customer service.

Batch Production means that components stay together throughout the production process from the moment the raw material is issued from the stores to the moment they pass through to final inspection. This means we have complete traceability from the purchase order for the raw material used through to when the product goes into our finished product stores.

All DMM metal products carry a unique serial number. The number allows every single item to be individually traced back to its original date and order of production. To read more about this here .

BS EN ISO9001:2000 : Quality Management System.
The Quality Management System maintained by DMM is registered to BS EN ISO9001:2000 “Quality Management System Requirements”. The main aim of this system is reflected in our Mission Statement

“Together each one of us will make a better, safer product for our customers”

Our system has evolved & continues to evolve as a result of nearly 25 years of development, investment & improvement to all of our activities. “Quality” both actual & perceived is our number one objective reflecting the fact that each & every day thousands of people around the world rely on DMM products to save their lives. Our system is audited by independent auditors at regular intervals to ensure continuing compliance to the requirements of BS EN ISO9001:2000 & as part of our commitment to continuous improvement.

CE Marking & Product Conformance
The CE marking process is known as Type Examination & is an important supplement to our Quality Management System. In line with the requirements of European Union Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Directive 89/686/EEC all products designed & manufactured by DMM which are classified as PPE are independently Type Examined & tested to the relevant European Standard for Mountaineering & Industrial Fall Arrest. Only after meeting the requirements of the PPE Directive & the relevant European Standard are we allowed to mark 0120CE (the “CE” mark) on our products.

BS EN ISO9001:2000 compliance & CE marking/product conformance are monitored by CEN (Committee for European normalization. Notified Body No. 0120 (SGS UK Ltd., Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset, UK). It is a legal requirement that we maintain our Quality Management System as part of the PPE Directive “CE” marking process.

3 Sigma Testing
This is our system for setting & monitoring the Strength Rating’s as marked on our products in line with the minimum requirements of the relevant European & other Standards, the “3 Sigma Testing” method. DMM were the first company in our industry to use this Statistical Quality Control (SQC) technique. Using test data derived from samples tested to destruction at the design stage we can set the Rated Strength of the product. We then have a system of ongoing Batch Testing which monitors & ensures that the 3 Sigma Rated Strength is maintained & exceeded.

Part of our philosophy at DMM is to continue to improve the breaking strength of our products in excess of the standards which may be required. We do this to lessen the chance of failure in situations & conditions which might not be reflected in the standard but which we know as climbers ourselves can cause product failure.

Investor in People
DMM were the first manufacturing company in Wales to be registered to the IIP standard (July 1992) & in December 2006 achieved recognition to the latest version of this important standard. This standard is people orientated & its main objectives are (a) to develop strategies to improve the performance of the organisation through its people (b) to ensure that the organisation takes action in order to improve its performance through its people & (c) to evaluate the impact of this investment in people on the performance of the organisation. IIP is more than just a training system, the IIP system is a key mechanism that helps us to target areas for improvement in all aspects of the business.

Caring For Our Environment
One of our continuous goals is to reduce our environmental footprint both locally and globally. Our Environmental Policy has been recognised by the Welsh Assembly Government as being the best in Wales for any Manufacturer. We are committed to:
• Maintaining 100% recycling of our product.
• Reducing our energy consumption.
• Reducing all emissions from our factory site.
• Increasing the recycling of production, administrative and distribution by-products.
• Make a positive contribution to sustainable development.
